Meet the Officers!

Meg.png

Meg
Safety Officer

Hi there! My name is Meg (she/they) and I am a second year at SJSU studying forensics. I am the current club archery safety officer, so I make sure everyone can have a fun time shooting with minimal injuries as possible. I only just started archery in fall of 2021. I was lucky enough to join the class that SJSU offers and from there I found the club. I shoot barebow! I found that the technique and style of the discipline is much more my speed and forte and so far I have won gold at the California State Indoor tournament and bronze during a team shoot in Davis. I can't wait to meet you at the range!

Adriel
Equipment Manager

I’m Adriel, and I’m a fourth year mechanical engineering student. I started archery in my first year and have shot recurve ever since. I am a big foodie and gamer too. I hope to see you all at the range!

Daniel
Secretary

Hello there. My name is Daniel and I am currently a fourth year studying public health. I've been shooting for about two and a half years and came to really enjoy the sport. Outside of archery, I have a big sweet tooth and like to indulge myself with sweet treats every now and then. During my time in the club, I hope to cultivate a fun environment where everyone can have a good time with archery. I like to spice things up wherever I go. So if you're reading all this, I hope you consider giving us a try! It'll be some nice family fun for everyone.

Abram
President

Hello. My name is Abram and I am a Forensic Biology major. Archery-wise, I am an ex-barebow shooter and currently shoot compound bowhunter. As of August 2020 I am a certified Level 2 NTS instructor. I took the plunge into archery during my freshman year and I’ve stuck with this club and this sport ever since. It is my pleasure to operate as president and work alongside my fellow officers to get you hooked into archery, just like I was years back. I hope to see you on the shooting line!

Adriana
Treasurer

Hi! My name is Adriana, but I go by Ria or Adri~ and my pronouns are She/They. I am a second year justice studies major, and I'm the Archery Club's treasurer. I'm that one girl who has a different hair color every couple weeks. I started doing archery in October of last year. It was a random spur of the moment decision, and I honestly have no regrets. Besides archery, I'm also on the Speech & Debate team and I dance for three separate teams around the Bay Area. Other than my own personal shooting goals, I want to make sure everyone is having a good time on the team, which is why you'll probably catch me asking everyone how they're doing.

Ben
Team Captain

My name is Ben and I’m a third year mechanical engineering student. I started doing archery when I was four and began competing in high school. I am a certified Level 1 NTS Instructor and helped run a Junior Olympic Archery Development Program at San Francisco Archers. I’ve shot various divisions but I’m currently shooting freestyle compound. Hope to see you at the range!

Dave

Dave has coached archers off and on since 2001 and currently coaches Club Archery at San Jose State University. He really enjoys bringing people to the next level, so that they can enjoy the sport as much as he does. He holds a Level 4 NTS certification from USA Archery, and has taught hundreds of archers over the years. He has been fortunate to help lead multiple archers to top ten in the nation finishes, including one compound men's third place team, plus a mixed team regional win, a women's team regional win, a couple state champions, and two national champions (one of which is fellow coach Katie Novotny)!

Dave has and always continues to do archery for fun. Sometimes that's just shooting, sometimes it's coaching, and sometimes it is gearing up for a big tournament. He hopes to teach others how to find that zen so they can enjoy archery as a life long sport.

Katie

Katie has been competitively shooting archery for the past 7 years. She was drawn to archery for the stress relief as well as the great people involved in the sport. Upon arriving in California, Katie joined the Stanford Archery Team. While involved with Stanford, Katie was teaching both private and group lessons and helped with their JOAD program.

Since graduation, Katie helped found and coach the Silicon Valley Archery Development program at Palomo Archery and also teaches private lessons. In 2018, Katie received her Level 4 NTS Coaching Certification through USA Archery and is now the Head Coach for Club Archery at San Jose State University. Although Katie prefers to shoot compound, she most frequently teaches Olympic style recurve and barebow. She is great with beginners, but loves working with more advanced archers where she can tailor the lesson to the student’s strengths and weaknesses.

Shimpei

Shimpei has been shooting archery both competitively and recreationally for the last 8 years. For the first 3 years he worked for a local archery pro shop where he both taught and worked as a technician. Following his high school graduation, he attended SJSU and joined the university’s archery team where he continued to teach and shoot. He initially joined the board as an equipment manager, later becoming president himself. Shimpei holds a level 1 NTS coaching certification through USAA. Now, having graduated from SJSU, he continues to help coach and advise the club’s board members.
